JOB TITLE:    PROCESS ENGINEER

DEPARTMENT:  Technical

  1. OBJECTIVE      

To ensure the effective operation of manufacturing processes that fall under your span of control.  To ensure that all process operating methods are clearly documented and maintained up to date. To ensure that the manufacturing processes under your control are continually developed / improved to ensure that technological advancements can be realised by Invotec Group.

To ensure that product being processed through the production process is manufactured to the relevant company / customer requirements.
  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

List the post holder’s key responsibilities and activities and refer to those of subordinates where relevant.

  1. To support the manufacturing operation by reacting to and solving process issues in a timely manner when they arise.
  2. To initiate corrective actions, training plans and process improvements where necessary to ensure that the processes under your control operate at their optimum level.
  3. Ensure all processes, operation instructions and procedures are fully documented and that all company quality procedures & documentation is rigidly adhered to.
  4. Ensure process controls and measures are identified, implemented and monitored for all processes within areas of your responsibility.
  5. To review departmental process controls and identify improvements on an ongoing basis.
  6. To identify manufacturing capacities for processes under your control. Liase with Team-leaders to ensure these capacities are understood and utilised.
  7. Understand & publish full capabilities for all processes and highlight improvement needs to the Technical Manager.
  8. Liase with the Pre-Production Engineering department to ensure that CAM & Planning practices reflect current manufacturing capabilities & methods.
  9. Identify cost reduction opportunities within all processes under your control and implement in conjunction with the Team-leader.
  10. Co-ordinate with / support the Purchasing department in pursuit of the companies strategic Purchasing objectives.
  11. To continually monitor and reduce scrap levels within areas of responsibility.
  12. Ensure all manufacturing processes and procedures comply with all current H & S legislation and company procedures (including COSHH).
  13. Liase with the Group Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to minimise the impact of processes upon the environment. Ensure that all processes fall within current 14001 guidelines.
  14. Provide absence cover as required by the Technical Manager.
  15. To identify, monitor & control all costs within an area in line with company targets. Drive cost reduction activities.
  16. To accept ownership (along with the Team-leader) of the appearance of the Cell under your control, with respect to maintaining a safe working environment through good housekeeping principles.   To maintain and improve Customer Perception of all areas and equipment within your area of jurisdiction.
  17. Actively participate within / drive the Company Quality Improvement Program, ensuring any corrective actions required are closed down within the relevant time scales.
  18. Ensure Quality of product is the basis of all decisions,  whilst optimising product throughput and minimising departmental cost.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

    1. Education

What are the minimum qualifications required?

Should be educated to a minimum ONC * (preferably HNC or Degree) level preferably in an engineering or manufacturing discipline, or have appropriate experience in a PCB manufacturing environment.

*or equivalent (ONC = Ordinary National Certificate).

    1. Experience

What minimum experience is essential?  What previous jobs should have been held and for how long ?
   
    A minimum of 3 years working within the Industry in an Engineering Role
 
Additional desirable experience?

    A minimum of 2 years within a similar process engineering role within the PCB Industry
    Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and their implementation.
